Business Analytics and Visualization

It has been a while since I posted a blog article.  Things have been busy and unfortunately my blog has suffered.  Not only have I been busy working in the Microsoft Dynamics 365 and Power Platform arena, but I have also been teaching at a local university.  This past semester I taught Business Analytics and Visualization.  It was a fun course to teach and I was able to introduce business students to the power of analytics using both Power BI and Tableau.  The text for the course was Introduction to Business Analytics, 1 st Edition by Vernon Richardson & Marci Watson.  The text did a great job of covering the types of analytics and the mindset and approach you should follow as a business analyst.  I recently used some of this material in a presentation at an FPnA conference, and it was well received, so I thought I would put the thoughts together here for everyone to read. Dynamics 365 Finance & Supply Chain with Power Automate - Part 1

I recently presented a session on using Power Automate with Dynamics 365 Finance and Supply Chain.  The session was very well received, so I wanted to post some videos and details to help users better understand the examples I covered in the session.

In the following video I will walk through using Power Automate with Dynamics 365 Finance & Supply Chain workflow.

Business scenario – AP team needs to be able to manage invoice approval workflow through Teams and Outlook and not just inside of Dynamics 365 Finance.

Components used in the scenario – Dynamics 365 Finance workflow and Power Automate

Synopsis – By using a template available in Power Automate the system can automatically manage this business process.  Power Automate will watch for vendor invoice workflows in D365 and send the information to the appropriate users in Teams and Outlook to review and approve the invoice.

An out of the box template is available for using Power Automate with Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations workflow work items.

Simply update the template with your instance information for D365, which workflow you are automating and which legal entity you would like to use.

Once this is setup, approval will now appear in Microsoft Teams and Microsoft Outlook with a link back to the record in D365.

The following screenshots show the basics of the flow setup and the results of the flow when it is working.

The following video walks through the steps of creating the flow.

Hopefully you find this video useful.  Please feel free to comment, and be sure to subscribe to my blog and video channel to get updates on new content.
